UGANDAN DANCERS BAND
Ugandan Dancers Band is a traditional music group that performs different traditional dances and music from uganda. It is composed two permanent dancers (Amutuhaire Joseline and Katushabe Immerculate) from Uganda and 2 permanent professional percussionists and drummers from europe -Tomas Ondrusek (germany/czech), and Martin Hybner (czech republic). The group is based in Germany and czech republic. This group started slowly since 2008 when Amutuhaire Joseline was visiting Europe the first time. The impression Joseline got while in europe, especially in Germany and the czech republic was: that there is no Ugandan music. There was lots of music and music groups from west africa but non from east Africa and this made her "angry"... When she finally decided to settle in europe at the end of 2008, she decided together with her husband Tomas Ondrusek to start performing Ugandan and East African Music . The very first dance she was eager to bring around was the Lukeme dance or "pot dance" from Northern Uganda from Acholi tribe. This made her the first "pot dancer" in Germany and the Czech republic! and for sure, if not in the whole europe, atleast in the biggest part of Europe as well. Later she started to do Kiga dance from western uganda from the kiga tribe, this gave her a big credit, since this is a very special and energetic dance! later she started to do Ekitaguriro from Ankole tribe, then Amaganda dance from Ganda tribe, she did not stop on only dancing but started also singing Ugandan folk songs and drumming the Ugandan drums. Amutuhaire later started to play enanga, it is a kind of a harp from the western part of Uganda, also from the Kiga tribe. The performances are also characterised by telling stories about the background of the music and dances, then "okwevuga" (something like toungue twisting) and making jokes with people. The Group did not stop there but also brought head drumming to the heart of europe. As if that was not enough: Ugandan dancers also brought ugandan "amadinda" (african xylophone type from Uganda) playing it in the original complicated interlocking style. Another beautiful instrument from Ugandan dancers is Akakyenkye, a small intrument that starts the music, spices up the music and ends the music - woh. The main drummers in the group are professor Ondrusek Tomas and Martin Hybner. Tomas, who was the percussion profesor at AMU prague and nowadays in the same position at the Academy of music in Osijek - Croatia, has very big knowlegde about African music and experience in westafrican and eastafrican drumming. Martin Hybner was his student at the academy of music in prague and works in different orchestras in the classical field. The group also consists of a second dancer called Katushabe Immerculate originally from Uganda UGANDAN DANCERS as a group has performed in different countries in Europe, in the Czech Republic, in Poland, Switzerland, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovakia, Germany and middle november to 4th december 2012 they were invited to perform in Russia, in St. Petersburg and Moscow. The succes in Russia led them to repeat the tour in 2013 again. The Band has continued to embrace invitations from different corners of Europe and this has given them the power to continue together this journey.
